• 6 acrylic paint pots: Yellow Ochre, Charcoal, White (2 pots), Brown and Marine Blue
• Flat brush

Colour mixing guide

• Warm grey (base colour): white + a small amount of charcoal
• Warm cream: white + yellow ochre + a little brown
• Soft beige: white + a very small amount of brown
• Light blue grey: white + a very small amount of marine blue
• Deep grey: charcoal + a small amount of brown
• Dusty blue: marine blue + white
• Muted teal blue (edge tone): marine blue + more white
• Dark corner shade: charcoal + brown + a little marine blue
• Soft neutral tan: white + yellow ochre + brown (light mix)
• Highlight white: white, for the lightest areas

9-step tutorial

1. Create the warm grey base. Mix white with a little charcoal and apply evenly over the canvas with the flat brush.
2. Add warm cream tones. Blend a little brown and yellow ochre into the background for warmth and dimension.
3. Create a dry-brush texture. Keep the brush dry, with no water, and apply paint lightly for a soft, layered effect.
4. Add texture with the sponge. Dab gently with the sponge dauber rather than swiping, building texture gradually.
5. Darken the textured corners. Apply charcoal and brown lightly over the raised decorative corners without covering the texture.
6. Define the edges. Work carefully around the canvas edges with light, even pressure for a balanced look.
7. Add marine blue. Clean your brush or sponge, then apply marine blue gently to the edges and textured areas for depth.
8. Paint the raised calligraphy. Use marine blue with the edge of the sponge or the detail brush, refine small areas, and let it dry.
9. Final look. Your Alhamdulillah painting is complete. Let it dry fully before displaying.

• Use small amounts of paint and build colour gradually.
• Keep the brush dry for the dry-brush texture.
• Dab with the sponge, don’t swipe.
• Blend colours gently for a soft, natural background.
• Clean your brush before changing colours.
